Planning starts before implant placement
A dental implant replaces a missing tooth root and supports a crown, bridge or denture. Modern planning begins with the intended final tooth position, then evaluates whether bone and surrounding anatomy can safely support it.
What does 3D planning add?
Three-dimensional imaging can show bone width, height and nearby structures more clearly than a two-dimensional image in selected cases. Digital planning may help position an implant according to restorative needs. A surgical guide can transfer part of that plan to the mouth, but it is a tool—not a substitute for surgical skill.
Who may need additional preparation?
Patients with bone loss, gum disease, uncontrolled diabetes, heavy smoking or complex anatomy may require disease control, medical coordination, grafting or an alternative replacement. Not every patient needs the same scan or guided workflow.
Questions to discuss
Is there enough healthy bone and gum tissue?
What restoration will the implant support?
Are grafting or extractions required?
What are the healing stages and maintenance needs?
